The Riverland Futures Taskforce was formed in early January 2009 as an initiative of the then Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Minister for Regional Development Hon. Rory McEwen MP and provides a mechanism for the following organisations to work together to achieve the Taskforce’s objectives
- The Berri Barmera Council
- The District Council of Loxton Waikerie
- The Renmark Paringa Council
- The Riverland Development Corporation
- The SA Murray Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board
- Government of South Australia
The objectives of the Taskforce are:
- Promotion of diversification of existing industry, strengthening of local enterprises and enhancement of business structures and local value added opportunities; and
- Promotion of environmental policies and programs that align with the strategies of the SA MDBNRM Board; and
- Promotion of education and social policies that enhance community infrastructure and development and encourage population stabilisation and future growth
- Assist in the carriage of the Riverland Regional Investment Opportunities Project (or similar) and work collaboratively with the Riverland Development Corporation in this regard; and
- Develop projects that attract new, sustainable industries to the Riverland
Each organisation is represented by its Presiding Member (or proxy) and its Chief Executive Officer (or proxy).
The Taskforce has a Chairman, and also has members representing the Chief Executives of the Department for Trade and Economic Development and the Department of Primary Industries and Resources SA (or their proxies)
The balance of the membership consists of the Riverland Response Coordinator and the facilitators of the Primary Production Forum and Community Forum respectively (see later regarding the Forum process).
